August 14, 2009

Back to school time is here and can I say HOORAY!!!! I'm not kidding! Summer travel will come to an end, midnight ice cream stops are over, and fast food meals 4 nights a week are done with.

Last fall I signed up for a November triathlon and began training. Now is the time to set that goal. My friend Carlie and I have decided to do it.

Should be fun:)

July 6, 2009

Ok, so summer is feeling like its rushing by and I might miss it! The no sugar thing by my Birthday didn't work out so well for me. Family reunions, lots of BBQ's, and traveling here and there have made it so hard to shed some pounds.

No bikini this summer, but I'm working out and really trying to eat balanced (whatever). Ha, I've been terrible!

I've got 3 weeks now before the next big vacation, so I'm buckling down.

This way of eating seems to work the best for me. It was developed by my friend, like 15 years ago when I shed my baby weight after Sean. It's specifically for my body type and exercise patterns, yet how different am I to everyone else? I even used it during my pregnancy with Emma and only gained 19 lbs. It's best when I weigh in with her weekly, but she lives in Lehi now and I struggle to get out that way. I check off as I go through the day and it even allows 1 cheat per week.

To make sure I get my exercise in, I where a pedometer on my hip and stay above 10,000 steps per day.

2 fruits
4 vegies
2 four oz. servings of protein
2 carbs (whole grains are best)
1 dairy
2 fats (nuts, butter, or salad dressing)

It averages out to about 1500 calories per day which seems like a lot.

May 29, 2009

No sugar since Tuesday. Well, I had a teensy taste of cotton candy at the school carnival the other day. I tried giving up my daily dose of Diet Coke, but that was pushing it! I am feeling better and watching those unwanted pounds starting to go.

My goal is to go without sugar/carbs till my Birthday, June 15th. We shall see if I can keep it up!

May 11th (Day after Mom's Day)

I am considering changing my blog to "gaining it", cause that's what I've been doing this week!!!! The anticipation of Mother's day celebrations just gave me poor excuses to eat sugar.

It's a new week and I'm literally sick of all the crap we've been eating, so it's time to get rid of it all (I'm talking about throwing it out). The yummy deserts and candy are gone today!

I'm also not going to put off signing up for races that give me a reason to work out a little harder. The Nestle/Art City Days is a very fun 5K. The whole family can join in and they give out the best prizes at the end. This year it will be held on Saturday, June 6th. You can register for it here.

Hope to see some familiar faces!

Best exercise ever!

For those of you who are bored with the usual exercise routine, I say ditch your aerobics classes and hike the Y!!! Right now is the perfect time to put on your hiking shoes and scale the semi-steep mountain.

It is the best workout - works your outer thighs and buns on the way up / works your quads on the way down (we run down for a more intense workout).

The best part is seeing the spectacular views and every once in awhile we get a glimpse at some wildlife. We've seen deer, bluebirds, and fox on our hikes.

WARNING: YOU WILL BE SORE THE NEXT DAY!

P.M.S.

I now know what these letters stand for: Peanut M&ms Satisfy

Yes, I gave in and I blame it all on PMS.

How many hours of aerobics and running should I do to recover from this mishap?

I curse the inventor of Peanut M&Ms

There is nothing more delicious than chocolate. Add nuts and chocolate becomes irresistible! I found a bag of peanut M&Ms in my food storage today. They were put there by Scot (he does all the grocery shopping lately). He doesn't even like nuts! Yet, he bought them and put them in a place where I regularly look. Just the other day he overheard me telling a friend how much I adored peanut M&Ms! Then they just magically appear? What was he thinking? Is he trying to be nice or is this his way of sabotaging my diet?

I heard the other day that people who have a keen sense of smell are usually always having to watch their weight because everything just tastes soooooo good!

I fit that description perfectly!
I thought all these years that I had this amazing talent of detecting stinky diapers from all the way across a room. I could smell the air and point out the culprit. Up until now, I've often bragged about my unique skills and even attributed my great preschool teaching experiences to this talent. I also felt I had the best care giving skills to my babies who NEVER sat in their smelly diapers for long.

My babies are raised. I've retired myself from being a preschool teacher. I am now wishing that talent would disappear.....food just tastes too good!
